What type of labels are recommended for the SATO family of printers?
The SATO family of printers will support die-cut or fan-fold label stock, tags, or continuous.
What are the factory default settings?
The factory default settings are found on page 2-24 of the Operator’s and Technical Reference Manual.
What is the difference between the printers?
The CL408 and CL412 printers print at 203 dots per inch (dpi), which provides a very economical means of producing labels. The CL608 prints wide labels, up to 6-inches, at 203 dpi. The CL412 printer prints at 305 dpi to provide a laser-quality label.
What type of interfaces does the SATO printer support? The SATO family of printers supports RS-232 and Centronics interfaces. Detailed information for each type of interfaces can be found in Section 5 of the Operator’s and Technical Reference Manual.
How do I control the print quality?
Print quality is controlled by one or more of the following three methods: Media Type, Print Control/Heat settings, and Print Control/Print Speed. For more information see paragraph 2.1.1 of the Operator’s and Technical Reference Manual.
How do I load the labels?| There are two types of label stock for use on the SATO family of printers, Labels or Tags. See loading instructions in Section 2 of the Operator’s and Technical Reference Manual; page 2-4 for the CL608 and CL 612 printers and page 2-8 for the CL408 and CL412 printers.
Where can I find more information on bar codes?
Appendis B of of the Operator’s and Technical Reference Manual provides detailed information on Bar Code specifications for the SATO family of printers.
What optional equipment is available with the SATO family of printers?
There are many options available for use with the SATO family of printers including a label dispenser, label rewinder, label cutter, PCMCIA memory cards, calendar, and interface cards. See Appendix D for more information on these additional options.
Can I print test labels?
Yes, the SATO printers are all equipped with a user test print function. This procedure is explained in detail in the User Test Print paragraph on page 2-37 of the Operator’s and Technical Reference Manual.
What do the indicator lights on the front panel mean?
There are four indicator lights on the front panel of the the CL608 and CL612: Display, Ptich, Print, and Offset. An explanation of each function is provided in the Operator Panel section of the Operator’s and Technical Reference Manual, page 2-12. There is only one indicator and an LCD Display for the CL 408 and CL 412. Detailed information can be found on page 2-14 of the Operator’s and Technical Reference Manual.
How do I format a label?
There is a Label Wizard function provided with the SATO printers. This software package allows the user to create labels with bar codes, text, lines, boxes and graphic images. Details are provided in Appendix F of the Operator’s and Technical Reference Manual.
How do I pause printing?
Use the Line key to toggle between on-line and off-line.
How do I cancel a print job?
A print job may be cancelled from the Operator’s panel on the front of the printer. Instructions are provided on page 2-28 of the Operator’s and Technical Reference Manual.
How do I change the quantity of labels to be printed?
The number of labels that will print will match the value shown in the command structure following the Q parameter. A value of 1 to 9999 may be entered here. When using the optional cutter, the number of labels printed depends on two factors, the cut value and the print quantity. The cut value is the number of labels between cuts and the print value is the number of sets, or number of cuts, for example a cut value of 2 and a print quantity of 20 will produce 20 sets of 2 labels each or a total of 40 labels. Print quantity is provided on page 4-61 of the Operator’s and Technical Reference Manual. Information on using the optional cutter and print quantities is provided on page 4-32.
How do I find out what the error messages and/or Error LED mean?
When the printer has a fault, an error message will appear on the LCD display and the Error or Status LED will indicate a problem by a illuminating a certain color and/or blinking a specific pattern depending on which printer you have. The detailed information regarding these messages is provided on pages 6-4 and 6-5 of the Operator’s and Technical Reference Manual.
How do I test the print ribbon?
The ribbon is monitored internally by the printer. There is no need for the operator to perform any tests. Look for the Ribbon LED, it will be Red if there is a problem with the ribbon. Information on the printer ribbons is provided in the Operator’s and Technical Reference Manual on page 2-4 for the CL 608 and CL 612 printers and page 2-8 for the CL 408 and CL412 printers.
How can I adjust the print heads?
To ensure consistent print quality with different types of media, there are two adjustments that can be made to the print heads, darkness and speed. Detailed instructions begin on page 3-1 of the Operator’s and Technical Reference Manual.
What do I need tio do if I change the width of my labels?
You need to have a good understanding of the print area and how to work with labels that may or may not use the entire print area. Detailed information begins on page 4-4 of the Operator’s and Technical Reference Manual.
How do I clean the platen and/or print head?|Instructions for cleaning the prent head, platen, and rollers are provided in detail in the Operator’s and Technical Reference Manual pages 3-2 for the CL608 and CL612 and page 3-8 for the CL408 and CL412.
My print head needs to be replaced, can I replace it myself?
Yes, however, remember that print heads are fragile; use extreme care when handling them, and never use a sharp object on the surface. The procedure to replace the print head is provided in the Operator’s and Technical Reference Manual, page 3-4 for the CL608 and CL612 and page 3-9 for the CL408 and CL412.
